Here we sit down with Maddison, to know a bit more about her journey as an Instagram Coach.

Q. What inspired you to become an entrepreneur?

Maddison: When I was working in larger agencies I saw a lot of small business owners come in for meetings with amazing businesses and ideas but not a large enough budget to work with a large agency. This inspired me to start Boho Social to make digital marketing accessible for startups and small businesses.

Q. How did you get started?

Maddison: Having worked in Communications and Marketing for the past 10 years I eventually followed my heart, dove headfirst into business, and launched my own brand. I now have the privilege of working with some of Australia’s top brands and exciting new businesses, helping people to achieve their marketing goals and have a little fun along the way.

The name Boho Social comes from my twin passions; the first being boho — ‘a free-spirited, open-minded thinker’, and the second being social. I have a true passion for social media and the positive power it can have for businesses.

I have a creative and opened-minded approach when it comes to marketing and believe that no strategy or design should have a ‘one size fits all’ approach. I believe that each and every business is unique in its own way and that your social media content should represent your unique edge and brand personality.

Q. What was your biggest startup challenge? What steps did you take to overcome it? What did you learn?

Maddison: My biggest challenge was time management. As my business grow so did my workload and fitting it all into the week was becoming very challenging.

This is when I found my amazing business coach Steph Gorton. Who I’ve been working with now for just over 12 months. Steph gave me strategies to be able to expand my business without working 24/7. I now have a wonderful team who support me and are experts in what they do.

Q. What is the Most Memorable Thing You’ve Done Since you Started your Business?

Maddison: The most memorable thing I’ve done since starting my business would be the amazing speaking opportunities I’ve had.

I spoke at the Act Like a Boss networking event in Perth last year in front of a room of amazing businesswomen. Speaking alongside some of Perth’s most amazing business entrepreneurs was a huge honour. Sharing my passion with other’s really lights me up.

Q. What is one book you recommend, and why?

Maddison: Lisa Messengers (Collective Hub) Work From Anywhere. For anyone looking to start their own business who don’t necessarily want a traditional brick and mortar business, this book is incredibly inspiring! Technology has given us the opportunity to work from amazing places with amazing people without barriers. If you have a laptop and internet connection the sky’s the limit. Reading Lisa’s journey really shows you can run a global business from anywhere in the world and work with the most talented team without the need for an office.

Q. What are your top 3 favourite online apps, tools, or resources and what do you love about them?

Maddison: My top three online apps are

  • Later.com — for simple, aesthetically pleasing social media scheduling. Later is so easy to use and makes content planning and scheduling a breeze!

  • ClickUp- for project management. Keeping track of all our project and team members tasks is so easy! Never forget a task or due date again.

  • Google Drive — For keeping all client work in one place that can be accessed from anywhere!

Q. In terms of legacy, what is the mark you’d like to leave on the world?

Maddison: I want to give small business owners the confidence and support they need to create thriving businesses. Confidence in business plays such a large role if I can give that confidence to other business owner’s I’ll be happy.

Q. In one sentence, what’s the best advice you’d give to someone just starting out on their entrepreneurial journey?

Maddison: Just keep going. Push through the hard days, the setbacks and hurdles. You’ve got this.
